How do I use the HALO SleepSack wearable blanket?

Slip the SleepSack wearable blanket over your baby's regular sleepwear as a replacement to loose blankets in the crib. You will normally want to put a short or long sleeve bodysuit or a cotton coverall on underneath the wearable blanket depending on your nursery temperature. Don't put your baby to sleep wearing a hat, as this can result in overheating.

How do I transition my baby from Swaddling to a SleepSack wearable blanket?

When your baby shows signs of breaking free from the SleepSack Swaddle or rolling over, it’s time to discontinue swaddling.  To make the transition easier, we recommend gradually transitioning your little one to the SleepSack wearable blanket.  You can do this by swaddling your baby for a few nights with one arm out, then two arms out of the swaddle.  Your baby will still have the secure feeling of the swaddle while gradually adjusting to having his arms free.

How does the HALO SleepSack wearable blanket help babies sleep safely?

The SleepSack wearable blanket replaces loose blankets in the crib that can cover a baby’s face and interfere with breathing. It also helps reduce the risk of baby overheating.

Why is the SleepSack wearable blanket sleeveless?

It is sleeveless to reduce the chance of baby overheating and is easier to be worn with regular sleepwear underneath. 

What is a TOG Value?

A TOG is a unit of measure of thermal insulation used in the textile trade. The British "TOG" value is the international standard measurement of a blanket's thermal effectiveness (how well it keeps you warm).

  • Keep in mind that layering allows great flexibility in keeping babies warm and cozy without overheating.

  • The HALO SleepSack wearable blanket is suitable for a wide range of temperatures by adjusting the clothing worn underneath it. Babies can wear anything from just a diaper, to a long sleeve bodysuit or a cotton coverall.

Why is the ZIPPER upside down?

The zipper is inverted to allow you to unzip the SleepSack wearable blanket from the bottom for easy diaper changes.

Will my baby overheat?

We have found that the SleepSack wearable blanketis suitable for a wide range of temperatures by adjusting the clothing you put on your baby underneath the wearable blanket. It keeps them comfortable in all but the warmest rooms. They can wear anything from just a diaper underneath the SleepSack to a coverall or sleeper. Many parents have reported that their babies sleep better with the HALO SleepSack wearable blanket, since they stay covered all night long.

How does the HALO SleepSack wearable blanket hold up in the washing machine?

Our SleepSack wearable blanketis made of the highest-grade fabrics available which will remain durable through many washings. It should be washed with like colors, and tumbled dry on low heat.  It is also recommended to close the zipper and turn inside-out before laundering.

Does the HALO SleepSack wearable blanket meet the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) guidelines for fabric flammability?

YES. Our products meet the requirement mandated by the CPSC Standard for Flammability of Clothing and Textiles under the Flammable Fabrics Act.

Is the HALO SleepSack wearable blanket chemically treated with flame retardant chemicals?

NO. The fabric and fibers used to make our garments are not chemically treated in any way.

How can I ensure that my baby sleeps safely?

Follow these guidelines to keep your baby sleeping safely. For more of sleep safety visit our section Sleep Safety.

Always:

  • Place  your baby to sleep on his back at naptime and at night time.

  • Use a crib that meets current safety standards with a firm mattress that fits snugly and is covered with only a tight-fitting crib sheet. Place your baby's crib near your bed.

  • Remove all soft bedding and toys from your baby's sleep area. The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests using a wearable blanket instead of loose blankets to keep your baby warm.

  • Breastfeed, if possible, but when finished, put your baby back to sleep in his  separate safe sleep area alongside your bed.

  • Offer a pacifier when putting your baby to sleep. If breastfeeding, introduce the pacifier after one month or after breastfeeding has been established.

Never:

  • Never put your baby to sleep on any soft surface (adult beds, sofas, chairs, water beds, quilts, sheep skins, etc.)

  • Never dress your baby too warmly for sleep; keep room temperature 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Never use wedges or positioners to prop your baby up or keep him on his back.

  • Never allow anyone to smoke around your baby or take your baby into a room or car where someone has recently smoked.

Where is the safest place for my baby to sleep?

The safest place for your baby to sleep is on her back in her own crib or bassinet in the same room as you. Side sleeping is no longer recommended as a young infant can easily flip onto his tummy. Do not allow your baby to fall asleep in your bed, as this is a risk factor for suffocation or SIDS. Make sure that there are no loose blankets, pillows, soft bumpers or other toys in your infant’s sleep space.
