Tips for Hosting the Perfect Baby Sprinkle
We can never resist a chance to celebrate a new baby, so we just had to host a baby sprinkle shower for HALO inventory manager, Rachel, and her family—husband Joey and soon-to-be big brother, James. So, without further ado, our favorite baby sprinkle ideas.
What is a baby sprinkle or a baby sprinkle shower?
A baby sprinkle is a type of baby shower to celebrate a family’s second child. Instead of a traditional shower, the gifts are often diapers, wipes and a few outfits since many families who are expecting their second child already have a lot of the gear they’ll need. It’s a newer idea we were eager to embrace!
Baby Sprinkle Invitations
A baby sprinkle has a built-in theme (rain showers!), so we went all-in with the invitations as well as the baby sprinkle decor.
Since sprinkles are not as common and well-known as showers, be sure to indicate what gifts will be helpful for the family.
Baby Sprinkle Decorations
Decorations can be simple but thoughtful. Here are a few baby sprinkle decorations we used to make the party memorable:
As they say, showers bring flowers, so we made sure there were plenty of fresh flowers around. Since it’s spring, we chose pansies, which come in colorful varieties and perfectly matched the raindrops on our invitations.
Colorful straws were decorated with adorable, tiny clouds.
Paper clouds and colorful raindrops were hung above the food table and a homemade raindrop table runner completed the look.
An ice cream station was loaded up with plenty of toppings to sprinkle on dessert.
Baby Sprinkle Gift Ideas
We made sure Rachel's family had lots of diapers, wipes and some darling outfits for their new little boy. You can even ask mom what diapers she prefers to help guests gift her exactly what she needs.
Don’t forget to honor the big sibling, too! We made sure James had a big brother T-shirt and a few guests brought special toys just for him so he felt special and included.
Consider a special gift for mom from the host. We chose to gift Rachel a spa gift card so that she could pamper herself. And, of course, we made sure she was well stocked with HALO items like the HALO Bassinest and HALO SleepSack wearable blankets.
Baby Sprinkle Games
Ditch the traditional shower games and try something active and fun!
We turned a favorite game into a baby-themed version! We brainstormed baby-related cards and then split the guests into two teams. Each team has 60 seconds to get through as many of the cards as possible before the deck goes to the other team and so forth until the deck is complete. Whichever team has the most cards at the end of the round wins. The rules of the first round are similar to the game Taboo where the objective is to get your team to guess what’s on the card without using any of the words on the card.
Once the round is over you can decide to either announce the winning team, or you can move on to a second and third round where you go through the cards again and describe what’s on the cards using just one word (round 2) and finally by acting the cards out like charades (round 3). I took some pics of the group playing this game that you could include Monkiers official game rules [https://buffalogames.com/product_images/uploaded_images/instructions/174-Monikers-Instructions_081816.pdf]
It’s fun to brainstorm your own baby-related cards, but here are a few to get you started. We used baby items, as well as pop culture references with the word “baby” in them.

Million Dollar Baby
A baby relay was the perfect way to get people moving around and interacting with one another. Plus, a competition is always fun!
Split guests into teams of four players. Each player will complete one task in the relay once the previous one is successfully completed.
Task #1: Make it to the bathroom in time! Blow up and tie a balloon. Place balloon under your shirt and place a clementine between your knees. This is to mimic a pregnant mama needing to go to the bathroom (a hilarious site to behold)! To complete the task you need to walk with the clementine between your knees to a basket and drop it in. If you drop the clementine, you have to go back to where it fell to start again.
Task #2: Get baby ready for bed. Diaper and swaddle (arms in!) a baby doll. Once your doll is ready for bed, run it over to the play yard for a nap.
Task #3: Bottle chug. Fill a bottle with three ounces of water, then chug! Once it’s empty you can tag on to the next player.
Task #4: Diaper toss. Toss rolled diapers behind you and into a laundry basket some distance away.
Once a team has successfully completed all four tasks, they are deemed the winners!
We captured the whole thing on video so you can see the fun for yourself!
Baby Sprinkle Favors
Favors are not necessary, but they’re a fun addition and a great way to thank guests for coming. We chose to give loofahs and body wash (get it?!) as a thank you to guests. Display them in a pretty basket and they even contribute to the decor!
