Transform Your Baby’s Nursery with DIY Mobiles

Transform Your Baby’s Nursery with DIY Mobiles

Whether you're an experienced crafter or a novice looking for a fun project for your baby’s nursery, making your own baby mobile can be fulfilling and fun!

Along with soothing your baby to sleep or keeping them entertained while they’re awake, a DIY mobile can add a personal and homemade touch to your baby’s nursery. Making your own mobile gives you the freedom and creativity to create a unique design that fits your little one’s room.

What theme fits your little one’s nursery? Are you looking for a monochrome, minimalist approach or a colorful spunky design? Once you’ve decided, check out our tips to create a perfect DIY baby mobile for your baby’s unique nursery:

You Will Need:

  • 8” metal or wooden hoop
  • Yarn or string
  • Pom poms (optional)
  • Multicolored felt, fabric or paper for decorations
  • Fabric glue or hot glue
  • Needle and thread
  • Scissors

Create your mobile:

1. Cut out shapes

Cut out the shapes you want to hang from your mobile with felt, fabric, or paper. For 3D shapes, be sure to cut out two pieces for the front and back of the shape. Our mobile is outer space themed

2. Sew top half of the shapes together

Use the needle and thread to sew the front and back of the shapes together. Make sure to leave a big enough opening for stuffing.

3. Stuff with extra felt

Stuff the shapes with any extra felt pieces or other stuffing material and sew together.

4. Plan your design

Lay out your design. Decide where you want each shape to hang on the mobile.

5. Wrap hoop

Once your shapes are all ready to go, set them aside and move to the hoop. Wrap the 8” hoop with twine all the way around. Be sure to pull it tight to keep it from unraveling. Secure with a knot once the hoop is completely wrapped.

6. Tie strings to the hoop

Tie as many strings as you’d like to the hoop. This is where the shapes will hang from.

7. Attach shapes to string using glue or sewing

Attach the shapes to the end of each string. You can do this by gluing or sewing it together. You can add pom poms or puff balls here for even more character! Just make sure that all pieces are securely attached to the hoop so there’s no risk of them falling into the baby’s crib.

8. Add string to the top for hanging

Your mobile is almost ready! Attach two overlapping strings across the top for an easy way to hang above your baby’s crib.

Creating your own baby mobile is not only a rewarding project but also a personal touch that adds individuality and warmth to your baby’s nursery. Check out the video above or find us on our TikTok for the step-by-step process. Happy crafting!
