Parenthood is filled with choices, from breastfeeding versus bottle feeding, diaper brands, organic versus non-organic .. the list goes on and on. One important decision for parents to make is about fabric and what type of material they want their baby to wear. When it comes to choosing fabrics for your little to wear, it can become overwhelming, especially for first time parents or caregivers.
You may be asking yourself, What material is right for my baby?
Here at aden + anais, we are firm believers in cotton muslin for its' durability, softness, absorbancy and breathability.
Why choose cotton muslin baby clothes?
Cotton muslin baby clothes offer several benefits that make them popular among parents and caregivers. Here are several reasons why they are and continue to be a parent-favorite:
- Softness: Cotton muslin is known for its soft and gentle texture, making it ideal for a baby's delicate skin. It feels comfortable and soothing, reducing the risk of irritation or rashes.
- Breathability: Muslin fabric is highly breathable, allowing air to circulate and keeping your baby cool and comfortable. It helps to regulate body temperature and prevents overheating, which is important for infants.
- Lightweight: Muslin fabric is lightweight and has a loose weave, making it easy for babies to move around without feeling restricted. This feature is especially beneficial during warmer months or in hot climates.
- Absorbency: Cotton muslin has excellent absorbent properties, making it suitable for various baby-related activities. It can absorb moisture, such as drool, spit-up, or sweat, helping to keep your baby dry and clean.
- Durability: Cotton muslin is known for its strength and durability. It can withstand frequent washing and is less prone to tearing or fraying, ensuring that the clothes last longer and can be passed down to younger siblings or other babies.
- Versatility: Muslin fabric is versatile and can be used for various baby items beyond clothing. It is commonly used for swaddling blankets, burp cloths, nursing covers, and more. Its versatility makes it a practical choice for parents.
- Chemical-free: Cotton muslin is typically free from harmful chemicals and toxins. It is often preferred by parents who prioritize natural and organic materials for their baby's clothing, reducing the risk of allergic reactions or skin sensitivities.
- Easy care: Cotton muslin is easy to care for and gets softer with each wash. It can be machine washed and dried, saving parents time and effort in maintaining the baby's clothing.
Overall, it's important to choose fabrics that are gentle, safe, and comfortable for babies. Remember to always follow the care instructions on the label to ensure that the fabric stays soft and durable.
About Our Baby Clothes
The seed for our baby clothes was planted back in the Aussie summer of 2003 when our founder took her first baby girl home, Anais, to Australia for maternity leave. While she was there, she kept wishing she had clothing made of muslin because the weather was so hot!
At the time, our brand, Aden + Anais, was focusing on other categories like swaddles and blankets and we wanted to make sure we took the time to create high quality baby clothes in cute, Australian and European designs. And of course, we wanted to make sure the material was practical - no one wants to be dry cleaning baby clothes!
Over ten years later, the collection came to life with essential and everyday pieces that are simple and adorable!
