The longevity of using a crib or a bassinet will depend on the specific product and the baby's size and development.

Bassinets are typically designed for use during the first few months of a baby's life, or until the baby reaches a certain weight or starts rolling over. This means that the longevity of a bassinet will be limited, and parents may need to purchase a larger sleeping option, such as a crib, once the baby outgrows the bassinet.

Cribs, on the other hand, can be used for several years, from infancy to toddlerhood and beyond. Some cribs can even convert into toddler beds or full-sized beds, providing even longer-term use.

HALO BassiNests meet all applicable consumer product safety standards and regulatory requirements in the region of sale. All US BassiNests comply with CPSC regulation 16 CFR part 1218 and, by reference, ASTM F2194 (Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Bassinets and Cradles) and also carry JPMA certification (Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association), signifying they meet additional requirements and the highest standards for safety, performance, and functionality. All Canadian BassiNests comply with the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act including SOR/2016-152 (Cribs, Cradles and Bassinet Regulations).

Do I need any additional accessories for a bassinet? 

While BassiNest can be used as is with no additional accessories, we do strongly recommend purchasing a few extra BassiNest sheets. (You’ll want these for laundry days or when accidents happen!) Many parents also find the Newborn Insert incredibly helpful in getting the youngest babies to feel secure for sleep.

When to transition from bassinet to crib?

When to transition from bassinet to crib?

You should move your baby from BassiNest into a crib when they reach 20 lbs or 5 months old (whichever is sooner), or once they start to push up on hands and knees. For a smoother transition, you might try doing naps in the crib a few weeks prior to discontinuing the bassinet altogether. For more tips, read this blog post.
