Some babies love being swaddled, so moving them to a wearable blanket can be jarring and cause wakeups.

Transition sleep sacks are designed to make this an easier and smoother process by offering coziness and/or gentle compression, which can help minimize the startle reflex. Some transition swaddles include weights or excessive filling to do so, both of which can create an unsafe sleep environment. Some also prevent babies from moving freely, which may not be ideal developmentally.

Once your baby starts to show signs of rolling, it’s time to ditch the swaddle. One way to make this easier and smoother is to use a transition swaddle as an in between step.

When shopping for a transition swaddle, look for one that allows your baby to move freely and have their arms out. (Having arm and hand access is critical for when they start rolling!)

After they’ve successfully moved from swaddle to transition swaddle, you can start introducing a wearable blanket. Pro tip: Try during naps first to get them used to it, before introducing for overnight.

Is it safe to keep using if your baby starts rolling?
Yes! That’s something we love about this product - you can use it after your little starts rolling. It’s a great option for babies who have hit this milestone but still need some help with their startle reflex.
What is the difference with Merlin Sleep-suit ?
Both Easy Transition and Magic Sleepsuit are great options for when baby is outgrowing their swaddle but may still have a startle reflex and crave the cozy comfort a swaddle provides. Easy Transition has a roomy sack design, more like a SleepSack wearable blanket. Magic Sleepsuit has separate openings for each of your baby's legs. Magic Sleepsuit is only for babies 3 - 6 months but Easy Transition has sizing from 3 - 9 months. We’ve found it’s really up to each baby which style they prefer. Some babies start with Magic Sleepsuit first then move to Easy Transition before ultimately going to a wearable blanket. Our recommendation is to purchase both so you can see what works best for your baby.

My 3 month old is almost 27 inches and 14 lbs. would it be okay to use the size medium even though his weight doesn’t fit the size recommendation?
Thanks for the question! You can go ahead and purchase the medium. It’s okay to use the next size up when either your baby’s height or weight surpass the smaller size. (Might as well get a bit longer use out of it!)

Hi Christina R., Your baby should be at least 13lbs or 22” to fit Easy Transition size small. If they meet either the height or weight requirement they are good to go!
